The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) recently received a delegation from the National Center of Educational Technology (NCET), under China’s Ministry of Education, to discuss strengthening co-operation in the areas of digital transformation in education, artificial intelligence and academic co-operation.

UFRJ Rector Roberto Medronho highlighted that the university has signed more than 30 agreements with Chinese education and research institutions over the last two years. He said that artificial intelligence and digital technologies should broaden access to knowledge, improve educational quality and strengthen research.

The Chinese delegation presented the results of the National Strategic Action for Digital Education, launched in 2022. One of its main components is the National Smart Education Public Service Platform, which provides digital content for different levels of education and teacher training. By August 2026, the platform had more than 170 million registered users and more than 79 billion visits.

UFRJ also presented its Laboratory of Computing for Education (LIpE), whose activities include courses for Indigenous students, educational and technological initiatives aimed at public school students and electronic waste recycling projects.

Following a technical visit to the lab, representatives of the two institutions expressed an interest in continuing the dialogue and identifying concrete co-operation projects in educational technologies.
