Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), recently held talks with the President of Angola’s National Assembly, Adão de Almeida, in Beijing.
Zhao said that China is willing to work with Angola to strengthen friendship and co-operation, implement the results of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and promote the development of bilateral relations.
The official highlighted Angola’s commitment to the “one-China” principle and called for stronger co-operation in the fields of clean energy, digital technology and artificial intelligence, as well as in education, culture and tourism.
At parliamentary level, Zhao expressed the willingness of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) to intensify dialogue with Angola’s National Assembly and provide legal safeguards for bilateral co-operation. He invited Angola to participate in seminars organised by the NPC for African parliamentarians and suggested exchanges of legislative experience in green development, social governance and safeguarding the population’s well-being.
Adão de Almeida stressed that China supports the development of its partners and expressed the willingness of Angola’s National Assembly to strengthen exchanges with the NPC. He also emphasised the role of legislative bodies in providing legal safeguards for the implementation of co-operation agreements between the two countries.
Following the talks, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on co-operation between China’s NPC and Angola’s National Assembly.
