Rio de Janeiro will host the V ChinaBrazil Film Festival from 3 to 25 August, featuring free screenings of 14 feature films, including seven Chinese productions being shown in Brazil for the first time and seven Brazilian films. The programme will take place at Cinesystem Belas Artes, in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, as well as in schools, cultural centres and community spaces across the city.

Curated by Hélio Pitanga and Arthur Chen, the 2026 edition celebrates the China-Brazil Year of Culture and promotes exchanges between the film industries of the two countries through screenings, discussions, educational activities and the presentation of the Arara Azul Prize.

Arthur Chen explained that the selection aims to provide Brazilian audiences with a broader perspective on contemporary Chinese society, with the aim of showcasing a diverse, modern and deeply human China.

The opening ceremony will take place on 5 August at the Palácio Tiradentes in Rio de Janeiro and will bring together Brazilian and Chinese professionals from the audiovisual sector.
