The President of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Helena B. Nader, was recently inducted as a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, at a ceremony held at the Friendship Palace in Beijing. With this distinction, the Brazilian researcher joins a select group of just over 170 international scientists and becomes the first woman from a Global South country to receive this honour.

The recognition granted to Helena Nader represents a milestone for Brazilian science and for the participation of researchers from the Global South in internationally prominent scientific institutions. With a distinguished career in the fields of molecular biology and science education, the researcher has strengthened academic dialogue between Brazil and China, within a context of growing bilateral ties in the areas of innovation, research and technological development.

The induction reflects the strengthening of China-Brazil scientific co-operation, particularly in strategic fields such as health, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, energy and sustainability. In recent years, universities and research centres from both countries have intensified joint projects, academic exchanges and initiatives aimed at knowledge production and the training of new researchers.
