Portuguese visitor arrivals in Macao up 34.7 per cent through May

The number of Portuguese visitor arrivals in Macao increased by 34.7 per cent in the first five months of the year, according to official data released recently.

 

According to data compiled by PressTUR, Macao received 6,522 visitor arrivals from Portugal in the first five months of the year, 1,680 more than in the same period of 2025. Despite the growth recorded, the figure remains below the level observed in the first five months of 2019, before the pandemic, with a decline of 3 per cent, corresponding to 204 fewer visitors.

 

Portugal was the fifth-largest European source market for visitors to Macao from January to May. Russia led among the main European markets, with 29,500 visitor arrivals, up 80 per cent year-on-year. It was followed by the United Kingdom, with 18,900 arrivals, up 3.8 per cent; France, with 13,100, up 21.2 per cent; and Germany, with 12,500, up 31.3 per cent.

 

In total, Macao received 126,500 visitor arrivals from European countries from January to May, representing an increase of 32.7 per cent, or 31,200 more arrivals, compared with the previous year. Visitor arrivals from Europe also exceeded the 2019 level by 1.6 per cent, corresponding to 1,945 more arrivals.
