More than one hundred members of Guinea-Bissau’s security forces recently received free consultations and medical treatment from the 21st Chinese Medical Team.

The mission, composed of 18 professionals from different fields of expertise, visited the premises of the Ministry of Interior and Public Order to provide assistance to soldiers, junior officers and senior officers. The initiative forms part of co-operation between Guinea-Bissau and the People’s Republic of China in the fields of defence, security and health.

According to a statement from the Public Order Police (POP) Commissariat, services provided included general surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology and obstetrics, anaesthesiology, radiology, ultrasound, paediatrics, internal medicine, gastroenterology, dermatology and clinical analysis, in addition to traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

The initiative was supported by the POP’s Superior Board of Health and aimed at promoting well-being, disease prevention and the monitoring of the health of security personnel.

According to the same source, the initiative reflects the co-operation and friendship between the two countries and contributes to improving the health conditions of these professionals.

The Ministry of Interior and Public Order and the POP expressed their gratitude to China, the medical team and the other participants, highlighting their availability, dedication and spirit of co-operation.
