Brazilian industrial production grew 0.2% from June to July, halting two consecutive months of decline, according to the data released this Wednesday (2) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). For the year to date in 2026, the sector shows a 1.1% increase, and an expansion of 0.6% over the last 12 months. Compared to July 2025, industrial output fell by 0.5%. The three-month moving average contracted by 0.8%.

Among the four major economic categories, three showed growth: durable consumer goods (3.2%), capital goods (2.4%), and semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods (0.5%), while intermediate goods declined by 0.2%. Of the 25 sectors monitored, 13 recorded increases, most notably computer equipment, electronic and optical products (12.2%), other transport equipment (11.2%), and tobacco products (11.1%). On the downside, the printing and reproduction of recorded media sector recorded the largest decline (-17.2%), and the extractive industry fell by 1%, acting as the biggest drag.
