The Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) recently received a Chinese delegation at its Seropédica campus, in Rio de Janeiro state, to discuss future partnerships in the technology and innovation fields. The meeting brought together representatives from the university, the Chinese Cultural Association of Rio de Janeiro and initiatives connected to research and technological development.

The discussions focused on bilateral technology transfer in the field of electric motors, the development of solutions for family farming, and the training of professionals in these areas. During a visit to UFRRJ’s agricultural machinery facilities, the Chinese delegation learned about the available infrastructure and examined possibilities for joint development with Chinese teaching and research institutions.

The University also presented the UFRRJ EcoTechnological Park and projects to develop the institution’s land in collaboration with the Brazilian Development Bank. The agenda also included the signing of various memoranda of understanding between UFRRJ and representatives of the Chinese Cultural Association of Rio de Janeiro, with the aim of establishing new foundations for co-operation between the Brazilian university and Chinese institutions.

The two sides agreed to hold another working meeting on 10 September to continue the negotiations and further explore opportunities for co-operation.
