On 25 August, the Brazilian city of Campinas, in the state of São Paulo, received a delegation of 15 Chinese researchers and businesspeople interested in learning about the local innovation ecosystem and exploring opportunities for co-operation and for companies to establish operations. The delegation was hosted by Campinas’s Secretariat for Economic Development, Technology and Innovation as part of a visit organised by the Brazilian Centre for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology (CIETEC).

At a meeting at the municipal government headquarters, the conditions offered by the city to foreign companies and the main features of the local business environment were presented. The delegation included Yuanyuan Li, Director of the Department of International Co-operation of the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang.

Contacts between CIETEC and the innovation ecosystem associated with Tsinghua University began in late 2025. Since then, potential partnerships have been identified in research, technological development and support for technology-based start-ups, including so-called deep-tech firms.

The delegation also visited the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials, the Unicamp Science and Technology Park and an AptaHub unit at the Institute of Food Technology (ITAL). Campinas Mayor Dário Saadi said that closer ties could expand the city’s international connections and create opportunities for co-operation, investment and technological development.
