Hosted by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) and organized by the Red Journal Macao, the Book Giving Ceremony of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China (Portuguese edition) took place at the Complex of Commerce and Trade Co-operation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries on July 27, 2023.

More than 60 guests attended the ceremony, including the Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Ji Xianzheng; the Deputy Director of the Macao Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau, Mr Ung Hoi Ian; the Editor-in-Chief of Red Journal Macao, Mr Huang Guangyu; and representatives of the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, The Industry and Commerce Association of Macau, Macao’s Portuguese-speaking associations and communities and Chinese enterprises in Macao, among others.

In his speech, Secretary-General Ji Xianzheng stated that deepening cultural and humanistic exchanges and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries is an integral part of the Strategic Plan of Forum Macao’s successive Ministerial Conferences, as well as one of the key areas continuously promoted and supported by the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao. To this end, the Permanent Secretariat organizes colloquiums annually in various sectors in Macao, which have been attended by over 1,500 officials and technicians from Portuguese-speaking Countries. In addition, the Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries has been held for 14 consecutive years, with over 2,000 people from Forum Macao’s participating countries presenting and performing. Furthermore, the Permanent Secretariat will shortly arrange for the translation of literary works from Portuguese-speaking Countries in order to promote the dissemination and promotion of such works in China. It is hoped that the publication of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China will enable the communities and citizens of Portuguese-speaking Countries in Macao to better understand contemporary China, as well as the new concepts, thoughts, and strategies of President Xi Jinping’s governance.

The Editor-in-Chief of Red Journal Macao, Mr Huang Guangyu said that the book-giving activity will further drive cultural exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, and through which President Xi Jinping’s new concepts, new thoughts and new strategies will be better understood by Portuguese-speaking Countries, allowing them to comprehend China’s trajectory, governance and philosophy, as well as the Chinese wisdom contained in this book. 

The books - Xi Jinping: The Governance of China (Portuguese edition) are offered by Red Journal Macao, distributing to several organizations including the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau, General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macao, Macao Holy House of Mercy, International Lusophone Markets Business Association, Institute of European Studies of Macau, International Institute of Macau, Macao Lawyers Association, Henry Fok Foundation, and several Chinese enterprises in Macao.
