On July 26, a delegation led by the Secretary for Technological Development and Innovation of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr Guilherme Coutinho Calheiros, visited the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao.

The Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Ji Xianzheng, welcomed Secretary Calheiros and his entourage and made a brief presentation of the task of the Permanent Secretariat and the celebrations of its 20th anniversary. Secretary-General Ji emphasized that Forum Macao is dedicated to serving as a solid complement to the bilateral cooperation between China and Brazil in a variety of areas. He expressed his hope that Brazil will actively participate in Forum Macao’s various activities and better capitalize on Macao’s advantages as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, as well as effectively explore opportunities for cooperation and economic and trade exchange with Mainland China’s provinces and cities, particularly the Greater Bay Area. Secretary Calheiros stated that the Brazilian Government attaches great importance to the Forum Macao and it will continue to support the work of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao. He pointed out that his visit aims to better understand Macao’s position as a Sino-Lusophone Platform and to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Macao SAR. It is hoped that by utilizing the multilateral mechanism of Forum Macao and the Macao platform, the cooperation between Brazil and China will be further strengthened in trade and investment, technological innovation, and cultural fields.

Other officials present at the meeting included: Director of the Department for the Development of Industry of High Technological Complexity at Brazil’s Ministry for Industrial Development, Commerce and Services, Mr Luís Felipe Giesteira; Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the MSAR, Mr Sun Xiangyang; Director General of Policy Research of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the MSAR, Ms Ma Naifang; Deputy Secretaries-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Paulo Jorge Rodrigues do Espírito Santo and Mr Casimiro de Jesus Pinto; Coordinator of the Executive Office, Ms Li Xiaohui; and Coordinator of the Supporting Office, Ms Teresa Mok.
