The malaria incidence reduced from 290.49‰ to 15.27‰ in São Tomé and Príncipe, a reduction of 94.74%, after three cycles of mass treatment carried out in the country with the support of the Chinese Malaria Control Advisory Office, where the plasmodium carrier rate and the gametophyte carrier rate also reduced to 0.
The Head of the Chinese Malaria Control Advisory Office in São Tomé and Príncipe, Guo Wenfeng, said that this result brought new hope for malaria elimination in the country. The rapid elimination of malaria would bring substantial benefits to the development of São Tomé and Príncipe in several aspects, including the economy and tourism, promoting significant economic growth.
The People's Republic of China, as a strong partner of São Tomé and Príncipe, is determined to help the country eradicate malaria by 2025.
