According to the Center for Global Development Policy at Boston University, since the beginning of this century, the Asian giant has lent Africa US$170 billion for 1,243 initiatives. Of this total, almost US$60 billion was channeled to energy projects, and almost US$50 billion went to transport projects.

Angola is China's largest economic partner in sub-Saharan Africa, with a total of over US$45 billion between 2000 and 2022 in loans and financing from China for 258 projects, mainly in the energy and transport sectors.

In the energy sector, Angola received US$26 billion through 37 loans, while in the transport sector, US$6.2 billion was channeled to 67 projects. This Portuguese-speaking African country is the largest recipient of Chinese financing, followed by Ethiopia and Kenya.
