China closed the first half of 2024 with 1.44 million tons of imported beef, an increase of 17% over the result of 2023 and the highest volume in history for this period of the year, reports Agrifatto, based on data released by the Chinese government.

According to the consultancy, the supply of beef to the Chinese market continues to be concentrated in South America.

Brazil accounted for 42% of total beef deliveries to the Chinese market in the first half of the year, followed by Argentina (21%) and Uruguay (10%).

“The three countries supply almost 3/4 of the beef imported by the Chinese," highlights Agrifatto, who adds: “Considering that 33% of Chinese domestic consumption comes from imports, it means that these three South American countries are responsible for 25% of China’s beef protein supply.”
