The Angolan central bank has left the country’s key interest rate unchanged despite inflation reaching a 12-year high in December, the Macauhub website reports.

The news portal reports the Banco Nacional de Angola elected to keep the key rate at 16.0 percent and the rate for the marginal lending facility at 20.0 percent.

A statement on the central bank’s website reports an increase in the inflation rate from 41.15 percent in November to 41.95 percent in December. It was the highest rate of inflation since June 2004, Angolan newspapers reported.

The central bank increased the prime interest rate by 2 percentage points in July.
