A group of Chinese business people is considering organising a China and Guinea-Bissau trade fair, the Guinean news agency ANG Notícias reported this week.

The report was based in remarks made by Jéssica Zhao, a spokesperson for a Chinese delegation that had a meeting with the President of the Bissau Municipality, Adriano Ferreira.

Ms Zhao explained – as quoted by the media outlet – that the Chinese mission was looking for business opportunities in the African nation. She added the delegation was studying the Guinean market to understand in what sectors the Guinea-Bissau Government would welcome investment.

The group was also aiming to boost exchanges between trading companies from the two countries, Ms Zhao added. A trade fair between Guinea-Bissau and China could be organised at a later stage, she said.

Mr Ferreira stated – as quoted by the news agency – that Guinea-Bissau could benefit from Chinese investment in several areas, including projects related to agro-industry and to social housing. He added his team told the Chinese business delegation of a need for a wholesale market in that country. Such a facility could supply Chinese products to Guinea-Bissau and the surrounding region.
