Tourism in Cabo Verde grew 481.5% in 2022, reaching 785,272 visitors, in a performance considered quite favorable, which reached pre-pandemic levels, according to a report by Cabo Verde's central bank.

"After the reductions seen in 2020 and 2021 by 76.3 and 24.9% respectively, the international tourism demand, which was measured in terms of non-resident guests entering the country's hotel establishments, recorded a strong recovery, growing 481.5% in 2022 and reaching 785,272 tourists," said the Bank of Cabo Verde (BCV).

According to the same source, the performance was superior to the sector's global performance, which registered a 34% drop in 2022, although less expressive than in the previous two years, still falling short of pre-pandemic levels.

In the previous year, the islands of Sal and Boa Vista continued to be the preferred destinations for foreign and domestic tourists, with the highest occupancy rates in the country of 56 and 83 percent respectively.
