Angolan president visits new Luanda airport

On the 27th of March, the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, makes a field visit to the New International Airport, located in the area of Bom Jesus, municipality of Icolo and Bengo, in Luanda, to verify the level of execution of the work.

The new airport baptized by Dr. António Agostinho Neto, whose final certification is underway, may start full operation in December 2023.

The new airport, which occupies an area of 1,324 hectares, has a capacity for 15 million passengers and a volume of goods of 50,000 tons per year. The infrastructure has two double runways and is sized to receive B747 and A380 aircraft – currently the largest commercial aircraft.

The work is in the charge of the Chinese state company Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC). The project is expected to cost US$2.8 billion.
