Rio Grande do Norte will be the second state in Brazil to have a Gem Certification Laboratory. The information was highlighted by the president of the Union of the Extraction of Base Metals and Non-Metallic Minerals of RN (SINDIMINERAIS), Mário Tavares.

He remembers that this laboratory arrives in the state after a cooperation agreement was signed with the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences during the agenda of the governor Fátima Bezerra, in China last month. It is very good news for us to have equipment like this here in the state. There are very expensive gems, such as the Paraíba tourmaline.

This laboratory, which is expected to be integrated into the facilities of the IFRN’s Mineral Technology Center, will inform the specifications of the gems, including weight, in a report signed by a gemologist.

With the laboratory, the international market will be opened for gemstone producers in Brazil, with the main focus on China and Asia and the potential to reach other parts of the world.
