China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd, one of the main international civil engineering companies operating in Angola, is to offer more employment opportunities to the local workforce, Chinese official news agency Xinhua reported.

“Currently half of our workers are Angolans and the local manpower has become an indispensable part of our project in Luanda,” said Feng Jian, Manager of China Harbour’s Luanda venture, which employs over 300 people.

The company is currently laying seabed oil pipelines at the Luanda harbour with the help of local workers.

China Harbour is a subsidiary of Chinese state-owned firm China Communications Construction Co Ltd. The company has built 16 harbours in Angola since 2006 when it first ventured into the country, according to the report.

Mr Jian told Xinhua that China Harbour is actively involved in creating more jobs for locals. That is a primary concern for the Government of Angola.
