The international mission “China Mission | Innovation, Finance and Artificial Intelligence” was recently held in Beijing and Shanghai. It brought together representatives of institutions within Brazil’s National Development Financial System (NFS) to promote the exchange of experience, financial innovation and China-Brazil co-operation.

André Godoy, executive director of the Brazilian Development Association and a member of the delegation, said that the mission had highlighted the convergence between the priorities of development institutions in the two countries, particularly in infrastructure financing, economic decarbonisation, technological innovation and social development.

The delegation visited the China Development Bank, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the People’s Bank of China, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the New Development Bank. The programme also included meetings with technology companies and visits to technology parks, Huawei and the Shanghai Data Exchange.

At a meeting with the People’s Bank of China, participants discussed financial instruments, the bond market and ways to strengthen co-operation with Brazil. The delegation also learned about robotics initiatives and the application of artificial intelligence in the financial system.

A meeting with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank explored opportunities for co-operation between the bank and Brazilian banks in areas including sustainable finance, the energy transition, the bioeconomy, sustainable agriculture and infrastructure.

The mission concluded in Shanghai with a review session examining how the experience gained could help strengthen Brazil’s National Development Financial System and institutional co-operation between Brazil and China.
