China’s plan to accelerate agricultural and rural modernisation during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030) could create new trade opportunities for Brazil’s agri-food sector. The plan reinforces food security, agricultural modernisation and improvements in the quality and efficiency of production, while also calling for the diversification of agricultural imports.

Against this backdrop, Brazil could expand its presence in the Chinese market beyond traditional commodities. Soybeans, maize and meat are expected to remain among Brazil’s main exports, while changing consumption patterns in China could boost demand for higher-quality proteins, processed foods, speciality coffees, fruit and other differentiated products.

The plan also calls for greater technological innovation, higher productivity and sustainable agricultural development. These priorities are intended to increase domestic production capacity and create a diversified food-supply system.

For Brazilian exporters, capitalising on these opportunities will depend on their ability to meet the requirements of the Chinese market, improve product quality and increase value added. Brazil remains an important supplier, with the capacity to provide large volumes, reliable supplies and a diverse range of agricultural products.
