The University of Évora recently hosted a meeting of the partner institutions of the China-Portugal Joint Laboratory of Cultural Heritage Conservation Science, an initiative integrated into China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The meeting, held at the Colégio do Espírito Santo of the University of Évora, aimed to publicly affirm the relevance of this international consortium, while also presenting some of the scientific research developed since its establishment in 2018.

The China-Portugal Joint Laboratory brings together the University of Évora, Soochow University and the City University of Macau as partner institutions, promoting scientific co-operation in the areas of cultural heritage conservation and enhancement.

The programme included an opening session with remarks by António Candeias, Rector of the University of Évora; Wu Yao, Director of the China-Portugal Joint Laboratory; Carmen Carvalheira, Évora City Councillor; and Yang Yirui, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Portugal.

After the opening session, participants were able to visit the exhibition “Youth and Traditional Building Craftsmanship: Outstanding Case Exhibition”, during a guided tour dedicated to the relationship between younger generations and the preservation of traditional building techniques.
