Brazil’s Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) recently held a meeting in Brasília with a delegation from China’s Ministry of Natural Resources, led by Vice-Minister Zhuang Shaoqin. The meeting aimed to advance the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries in April 2026 and identify concrete opportunities for technical co-operation.
The meeting was led by the Executive Secretary of the MGI, Cilair Abreu, who described it as a step towards the practical implementation of the partnership between the two countries. He said that the agreement formed part of a broader context of strengthening relations between Brazil and China, which were elevated in 2024 by Presidents Lula and Xi Jinping to the level of a China-Brazil community with a shared future, with a focus on sustainable development and strategic co-operation.
One of the central areas of the meeting was access to, and the sharing of, satellite images. The delegations discussed ways to expand the use of high-resolution data that could contribute to improving policies on environmental regularisation and territorial and public asset management.
