On February 16, Foz do Iguaçu, famous for its stunning waterfalls and rich cultural diversity, celebrated the Chinese New Year with performances in Praça da Paz.

The opening ceremony was attended by Chinese Consul General Yu Peng, among other authorities, and representatives of the Chinese community. On the occasion, the mayor of Foz do Iguaçu, Silva e Luna, emphasized the good relationship between Foz and China, highlighting partnerships in various areas. But the highlight was the authorities joining forces to implement a flight linking the Land of Waterfalls to the Asian country.

According to him, the strong Chinese community in the city and the growing number of Chinese tourists visiting the region are factors that make this connection not only desirable, but essential. In 2023, 6,336 Chinese visitors came to Foz. By 2024, that number had grown to 16,256, making China the 10th largest source of international tourists to the destination and the largest in Asia.
