Official figures indicate that among the tourists that visited Lisbon in January, Chinese visitors spent most freely, Correio da Manhã says.
The Portuguese newspaper, citing data collected by the Lisbon Tourism Observatory, says each Chinese tourist in the city spent, on average, €956 (US$1,181).
The report says Chinese visitors were the fastest-growing source of revenue for duty-free shops in Lisbon, spending 70 percent more in January than a year earlier.
Angolan visitors were the biggest single source of revenue for duty-free shops in the city, accounting for 32 percent of takings in January, although each spent, on average, only €326, Correio da Manhã says.
