The Getúlio Vargas Foundation, a Brazilian university, says it has held a seminar on the regulatory and legal aspects of the Chinese economic presence in Brazil.

The university says on its website that the seminar, held recently in Rio de Janeiro, brought together Chinese officials and Chinese and Brazilian authorities on the subject to discuss Sino-Brazilian business relationships and the mutual benefits to be derived from them.

Getúlio Vargas Foundation Rio de Janeiro Law School Professor of International Law Evandro Carvalho told the gathering that China was the biggest trading partner of Brazil and one of the biggest investors in the country.

Chinese Consul-General in Rio de Janeiro Li Yang said Chinese companies operating in Brazil were interested in more than just profit.

“Companies are welcome because they adopt a win-win approach,” Mr Li told the seminar.

But he cautioned Chinese investors: “Entrepreneurs that come to Brazil need to adapt to the Brazilian market and regulatory environment.”
