Work to build a new University of Cape Verde campus – a project funded entirely by Mainland China – will start next month. It will be the biggest single project in the 40-year relationship between the two counties, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency says the €45-million (US$50.1-million) public university campus in the Palmarejo Grande area of Praia should accommodate 4,890 students and 476 teachers.

The new campus will have 61 classrooms, five 150-seat auditoriums, eight computer rooms, eight reading rooms, 34 laboratories, a multipurpose hall seating 654 people, dining rooms, a library, dormitories and a sports hall.

“Within three years we will have a modern, functional campus, much like the university campuses in more developed countries,” said Cape Verde’s Prime Minister Ulisses Correia.

Mr Correia thanked the Mainland and state-owned Longxin Construction Group Co., Ltd. for their work on the project.
