Shenzhen’s BYD Co., Ltd. has invested US$48 million to expand its Campinas factory in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, online media Macauhub reports.
The expansion will allow BYD to produce solar panels and chassis for electric buses at the factory that was opened in 2015.
The Xinhua news agency reported last year that 11 electric buses and five electric taxis manufactured by BYD were operating in Campinas, while the company also has electric vehicles running in the Brazilian cities of Curitiba and Brasilia.
BYD makes electric cars, rechargeable batteries and solar panels.
