A delegation from the Chinese city of Guangzhou (Canton) was received on September 11 at Coimbra City Hall. The two municipalities have been twinned since 2013, but this was the first time they had met. The meeting opened up new opportunities for cooperation in the economic, industrial and educational areas.

During the meeting, the Chinese delegation showed great interest in establishing synergies and deepening cooperation, especially in the industrial and economic areas, highlighting that "the educational environment in Coimbra is conducive to business and innovation". 

The Chinese city officials explained that Guangzhou has a wide range of opportunities in 38 categories of industry, the most important of which is automobiles, and showed interest in collaborating with Coimbra in areas such as renewable energies and biotechnology-based medicines.
