Chinese state television Guangdong Radio and Television (GRT) has set up a center to subtitle programs in Portuguese to show Portuguese-speaking countries the real China, the Macau government announced on the 12th of September.
In a statement, the government said that GRT has set up the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Portuguese Subtitling Center, in the Guangdong-Macao Deepened Cooperation Zone, on nearby Hengqin.
The press release also reveals that "a series of original programs produced by GRT will be launched, with subtitles and dubbing in Portuguese" and that two programs will be broadcast "on the main television channels" in Portuguese-speaking countries.
In addition to subtitling Chinese programs into Portuguese, Guangdong Radio and Television will also subtitle Portuguese programs into Chinese so that there can be an exchange of media from China and the Portuguese-speaking world.
