China took second place in the ranking of car exporters to Brazil, reaching a share of 13.6% in the period between January and August this year.
According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), the Asian giant surpassed Mexico (10%) and Germany (8.8%) ranking second place in the list of the sector's main exporters to Brazil. Argentina continues to lead, with 43.5%.
In the first eight months of 2023, vehicle imports from China totaled US$440.2 million, exceeding the US$90.3 million recorded in the same period last year by more than four times.
In July, BYD announced that it would open an electric vehicle production hub in Bahia. The promised investment is R$3 billion, with the plan to use the former Ford complex in Camaçari.
