Guinea-Bissau’s National Council of Shippers says a public tender will soon be launched for the construction of a dry port in the African nation.
Online media Macauhub reported the project would cover a total area of 25,000 square metres at Pime on the outskirts of Bissau, the nation’s capital. The dry port would feature different facilities including cold storage facilities for perishable goods.
The council was now finalising the acquisition of 40 land plots for the dry port, according to the report.
Apart from handling transhipment of cargo, Bissau’s future dry port might include other services, such as cargo vehicle maintenance services and goods handling facilities, Macauhub reported.
João Bernardo Vieira, then State Secretary for Transport and Communications, in May said that Guinea Bissau would have a dry port with a capacity to handle over 100,000 containers by the end of 2017.
