China congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election on 26 October and said it was ready to continue working with Brazil to build a China-Brazil community with a shared future.
At a press conference on 26 October, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that China had taken note of the announcement by Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) of President Lula’s victory in the presidential run-off.
He said China was ready to work with Brazil to advance the building of this community.
According to the TSE, Lula received 51.79 per cent of the valid votes, against 48.21 per cent for Flávio Bolsonaro. The result will see Lula take office as President for a fourth time, an unprecedented development in Brazil’s history.
