Alibaba Cloud, Alibaba Group’s cloud computing division, launched its first cloud region in South America, with two data centres in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. The initiative strengthens the company’s operations in Latin America, following the launch of its Mexico region in February 2025.

According to the company, the new infrastructure provides computing, storage, security and big data analysis services to companies, start-ups, developers and public institutions. Services running on local infrastructure can reduce latency, improve resilience and ensure compliance with local cybersecurity and data governance regulations.

Alibaba Cloud also plans to introduce agentic artificial intelligence (AI) services in Brazil, aimed at streamlining the development and operation of enterprise-scale AI agents in a secure environment.

In order to strengthen its network of partners in the country, the company has established partnerships with Insi and 4Linux. Insi will provide customised solutions to enterprises based on Alibaba’s cloud and AI services. 4Linux will combine the Qwen model with its local expertise in deployment and professional training to bring generative AI to Brazilian enterprises.

Alibaba Cloud currently operates 106 availability zones across 31 regions. The expansion in Brazil is part of Alibaba’s commitment to invest US$53 billion in AI infrastructure.
