The Macao University of Tourism (UTM) is strengthening co-operation with institutions of Portuguese-seaking countries through new training programmes and academic exchanges.

The Rector of UTM, Fanny Vong, recently highlighted the partnership signed with Mozambique’s Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), describing it as a strategic relationship in the context of co-operation with Portuguese-speaking countries. The agreement provides for scholarships, advanced training and academic exchanges for professors and students. Currently, three UEM professors are enrolled in master’s programmes at UTM.

The institution is also discussing a possible partnership with Angola. According to Fanny Vong, UN Tourism put UTM in contact with Angola’s Ministry of Tourism, which is developing vocational schools in the tourism sector and has expressed an interest in collaborating with the Macao university.

Portugal is also part of UTM’s international network. Existing initiatives include a dual master’s degree programme developed in partnership with the University Institute of Lisbon.

The internationalisation of UTM is part of efforts to strengthen Macao’s role as a bridge connecting China to Portuguese-speaking countries. The university aims to continue expanding its international co-operation network, promoting the training of professionals and academic exchanges in the tourism sector.
