The Chinese Academy of Engineering and its Portuguese counterpart, the Academy of Engineering, recently signed a memorandum of understanding in Lisbon to strengthen co-operation in marine technology and ocean engineering. The agreement was signed during a joint forum that brought together scholars, experts and representatives from the marine sector of both countries.

The participants examined opportunities for co-operation in the fields of marine engineering, maritime transport, shipbuilding and port engineering. The discussions also included marine engineering equipment, intelligent shipping, green ships, smart ports and marine renewable energy, as well as strengthening joint research and the transfer of technological results to the market.

The President of the Academy of Engineering, Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo, stated that the memorandum will allow for the deepening of long-term co-operation between the two institutions while facilitating exchanges between researchers, experts and companies. The Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chen Jianfeng, highlighted the results achieved in the fields of marine science and technology, the blue economy and ocean governance.

In a video message, China’s Ambassador to Portugal, Yang Yirui, said that marine co-operation has become an important component of bilateral relations. He also expressed the expectation that the forum would help create new platforms for exchanges and strengthen the Blue Partnership between China and Portugal.
