China’s advances in artificial intelligence, particularly in the development of open models, computing infrastructure and robotics, as well as the application of the technology to the economy, could create new opportunities for co-operation with Brazil, Brazilian experts highlighted last week. The remarks were made during the online seminar “Brazil, China and the Governance of Artificial Intelligence”, organized by the China-Brazil Business Council (CEBC) and the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI).

Diogo Cortiz, a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, said that China currently holds a leading position in the field of robotics, with dozens of companies dedicated to the development of humanoid robots.

Cortiz also highlighted the progress made by Chinese artificial intelligence models and the availability of open models. He also mentioned the initiative “AI Plus”, which is part of China’s five-year plan and is designed to expand the application of artificial intelligence across different sectors of the economy. According to the researcher, a country’s ability to adopt these technologies and use them to transform its economy is crucial to the results it achieves.
