Angolan GDP grows 8.74% in the second quarter

According to a Lusa report released on August 28, Angola's National Institute of Statistics (INE) released the Quarterly National Accounts today, according to which the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) recorded real growth of 8.74% in the second quarter of 2026, compared to the same period in 2025, driven by the non-oil sector, which grew by 9.24%, while the oil sector increased by 5.64%. Compared to the first quarter of the year, the national economy grew by 2.75%. GDP stood at 43.43 trillion kwanzas. The largest contributions to the national output came from Agriculture, Livestock, and Forestry, with 14.86 trillion kwanzas, followed by Trade and Repair (7.01 trillion), Oil Extraction and Refining (6.97 trillion), and Public Administration, Defense, and Social Security (3.90 trillion). The activities showing the largest year-on-year variations were Diamond Extraction (+16.46%), Information and Communication (+14.30%), Accommodation and Food Services (+12.59%), Processing and Manufacturing Industry (+12.22%), and Financial and Insurance Intermediation (+11.83%). In terms of contribution to GDP variation, the sectors that stood out were Vehicle Trade and Repair (1.67 percentage points), Processing and Manufacturing Industry (1.48 p.p.), and Oil Extraction and Refining (1.03 p.p.). Accumulated GDP for 2026 grew by 7.15% compared to the same period in 2025, while accumulated GDP for the last four quarters recorded an increase of 5.4%.
