São Tomé and Príncipe recently participated in the 7th China-Africa Media Cooperation Forum in Beijing. During the forum, the São Toméan delegation presented professional training, infrastructure upgrades and modernisation as priority areas for the development of the country’s media sector.

The country was represented by Sósimo Leal, the Prime Minister’s Adviser for Communication, and Guedes Medeiros, Director-General of Rádio Somos Todos Primos. Sósimo Leal said that participation in the forum had enabled São Tomé and Príncipe to examine China-Africa relations in the media sector and identify areas of interest for the country.

According to Sósimo Leal, São Tomé and Príncipe intends to follow up on the contacts established in Beijing and jointly explore concrete opportunities for co-operation with Chinese authorities and partners. Such support could include training programmes and the acquisition of equipment aimed at improving the operation of media organisations, particularly radio and television broadcasters.

The forum concluded with the adoption of a joint declaration, which provides for deeper co-operation in the areas of technological innovation, artificial intelligence, content production and exchange, and professional training. The forum also sought to promote the wider circulation of content between China and Africa.
