Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, recently began a series of meetings in Beijing with Chinese companies and investors to present infrastructure projects and explore opportunities for private-sector participation in the port, airport and inland waterway sectors. The visit forms part of an official mission by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), with further engagements scheduled in Shanghai.
In Beijing, the minister met with representatives of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and China Merchants Port Holdings. The mission, organised with the support of the Embassy of Brazil in China and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), aims primarily to promote the Ministry’s project portfolio and attract private investment.
Topics discussed included port and inland waterway concessions, airport infrastructure projects, and initiatives aimed at expanding connectivity and improving logistics efficiency. Tomé Franca said that Brazil intended to present concrete opportunities and create conditions to attract new investment.
According to the Brazil-China Business Council, Chinese investment in Brazil reached US$6.1 billion in 2025, 45 per cent higher than in the previous year. During the same period, Brazil was the world’s leading destination for Chinese investment, accounting for 10.9 per cent of the total.
