China has appointed new Ambassadors to Portugal, Mozambique and East Timor, Chinese official news agency Xinhua reported on Thursday.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lowered its forecast for economic growth in Mozambique, according to a report this week by Mozambican newspaper Folha de Maputo.

The recent fluctuation of the yuan exchange rate is “within control” and the People’s Bank of China is “fully capable” of stabilising the market if necessary, said Ma Jun, an economist from the Chinese central bank speaking on Wednesday. The sole clearing bank for yuan business in Macao, Bank of China Macao Branch (BOC Macao), has been approved to provide clearing and settlement services in China’s currency to Portuguese-speaking Countries, local newspaper Macao Daily News reported.

China will donate two new maritime patrol ships to Cape Verde on Friday as part of a military co-operation protocol between the two nations, Cape Verde newspaper A Nação reported.

China devalued its currency the yuan by the most recorded at one sitting since 1994. The move is to enhance the market orientation of the yuan, China’s central bank said.
