China will donate 1,200 tons of rice to São Tomé and Príncipe under an agreement signed on May 13 in the capital of São Tomé and Príncipe. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities, Gareth Guadalupe, and the Chinese ambassador, Xu YingZhen signed the agreement.

“It is a concrete action to reduce poverty and rural benefits announced by President Xi at the 8th Ministerial Conference of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum," highlighted Xu YingZhen.

“This rice that will arrive through the People's Republic of China is not to be sold; it is to be given free of charge to the most needy populations," highlighted Minister Gareth Guadalupe.

The Chinese ambassador, Xu YingZhen, took the opportunity to express her country's willingness to relaunch cooperation with São Tomé and Príncipe in the field of agriculture, above all through technical assistance and the sharing of experiences.
