One thousand 600 tonnes of rice were harvested in the last season from the 25 hectares produced, a fact that encourages the Chinese agricultural company "Olombi Agronegócios", which is exploring the fertile lands of the Matala Irrigated Perimeter, located 180 kilometres east of the city of Lubango, in Huíla province, Angola.
The data to which Jornal de Angola has had access shows that the first harvests were around 300 tonnes in the first three years of the project's implementation, but then rose to 900 tonnes in the last agricultural season and, this year, the harvest reached 1,600 tonnes.
"By April next year, we will reach 2,450 tonnes, a quantity that will continue to increase with every three months of rice production," said the company's director, guaranteeing that the municipality of Matala is very close to becoming the largest producer of this cereal and covering a good part of the country's needs.
