Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi attended the inauguration of a gas-fired power station that will supply the city and province of Maputo with electricity, Xinhua reports.
“We are happy that the country is taking significant steps towards the universal access to electric power by 2030,” the Chinese government-run news agency quotes the president as saying.
“We are convinced that our capacity to grow in a sustainable manner is connected to the level of access to electric power.”
The new power station has a capacity of 106 megawatts, enough to meet one quarter of the demand for electricity in the area it will serve.
