China International Development Co-operation Agency spokesman Tian Lin has said China will give Mozambique emergency humanitarian aid to relieve the harm done by the recent cyclone there, CGTN reports.

The Chinese government-run television network quotes Mr Tian as saying the Chinese government is willing to do disaster relief and reconstruction work, if it is asked to and if it can.

The report quotes Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Yan Shuang as saying on the ministry website that his government is willing to give Mozambique whatever support and assistance is needed.

Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has said the cyclone and ensuing flooding may have killed over 1,000 people, CGTN says.

Separately, the Chinese government-run news agency, Xinhua, reports that Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent Mr Nyusi a message of condolence.
