Mozambique’s government has announced increases in the minimum wage in nine occupations, the increases ranging from 5.5 percent to 21 percent, AIM reports.
The Mozambican news agency quotes the government as saying the minimum wage of civil servants will rise by 21 percent to 3,996 meticais (US$60.56), that of hotel workers by 5.5 percent to 5,050 meticais, fisheries workers by 20.97 percent to 4,615 meticais and financial sector staff by 18.87 percent to 10,400 meticais.
Labour, Employment and Social Security Minister Vitória Diogo said most employers already pay their employees more than the minimum wage.
