China and Brazil should strengthen ties in military co-operation, Chang Wanquan, China’s Minister of National Defense, said in a meeting on Wednesday with his Brazilian counterpart Jaques Wagner.

Mr Wagner was in Beijing as a special envoy of the Brazilian Government for a parade marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, reported China Military Online. The portal is sponsored by PLA Daily, the newspaper of China’s military, the People’s Liberation Army.

“Defence and military co-operation between China and Brazil are an important part of bilateral relations, and further developing these relations is fundamentally beneficial to both countries,” Mr Chang said.

China is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with Brazil, deepen co-operation in international peacekeeping, military logistics, humanitarian aid and disaster relief, he added.

Mr Wagner said the two countries have achieved positive results in economic, trade, military, technology and cultural co-operation. He also pledged to deepen trust between China and Brazil on military matters.
