On the 14th of April, the container ship MSC TESSA set an all-time record when it called at the Port of Sines in Portugal during its maiden voyage.
The third largest ship in the world, with a cargo capacity of 24,116 TEU, is the largest container ship to dock at a Portuguese port to date. The arrival of the MSC TESSA allows PSA Sines to demonstrate its extensive operational capacity in managing the loading and unloading of containers.
MSC TESSA built by subsidiary company Hudong Zhonghua of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Ltd., is a state-of-the-art container ship. In Sines, MSC TESSA will handle around 4,500 containers.
Nichola Silveira, Managing Director of PSA Sines, said, “Currently, our terminal is the only Portuguese facility that can receive mega container ships. To meet the evolving demands of our customers, we are expanding our facility to accommodate up to three mega container ships at our terminal simultaneously. “
