The Porto Central, a port complex located in the south of Espírito Santo in Brazil, has signed a commercial contract with China Offshore Oil (Singapore) International (CNOOC) for petroleum transshipment operations in its first phase.

The CNOOC will use the port to carry out “Ship-to-Ship” (STS) operations, which consist of transhipping petroleum between ships in a sheltered area. This technology allows the safe movement of large volumes of petroleum by means of large ships, such as Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). In addition, the operation promises to increase logistical efficiency, reduce transport costs, minimize environmental risks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Porto Central's management said they are building a port infrastructure that will consolidate the port as one of Brazil's main energy hubs. Its partnership with CNOOC is a reflection of the role of its port, which is strategically located in the center of the Brazilian coast in front of the Pre-salt basins, as an important logistical and strategic solution in Brazil for the petroleum sector.
